Call for Papers, and Conference Registration
The theme of the 2024 conference is The (High Density) Metropolis and Region in Planning History. Papers related to the following themes can be submitted:
- Port city planning;
- Colonial urban planning;
- Post-colonial planning trajectories;
- New Town planning;
- Regions and regional planning in history;
- Cities and the natural environment;
- Planning in high-density urban contexts.
- Capital accumulation and planning within global cities;
- City development in Southeast Asia and other Asian regions;
- The history of urbanization and planning in the Chinese context;
- Public housing;
- Community planning, health, and public space;
- Transport planning;
- Planning historiography;
- City planning and heritage;
- Planning History pedagogy.
Paper Submission
If authors of accepted abstracts taking up the option of submitting a full paper for inclusion into the conference proceeding, the work must be completed and uploaded to the abstract submission page at Easy Chair prior to 31 May 2024. Full papers, once submitted, will be subjected to peer review ahead of being published in the conference proceedings. To reiterate, any full paper must conform with the formatting information, and therefore it is advisable to check the paper template document before composing a full paper.
The organisers of the 20th Biennial IPHS Conference are calling for panel and paper proposals. Paper submissions are to be submitted at https://easychair.org/cfp/iphs2024. Panel submissions can be sent by email to iphs2024@cuhk.edu.hk. The deadline for abstracts and panels is now extended to February 19, 2024.
Details of registration fees will be available soon. IPHS members shall receive a discounted registration fee. Therefore, to join the Society ahead of the 2024 conference, please use the weblink https://planninghistory.org/membership/. Important Dates
As noted elsewhere in this website, the 2024 IPHS Conference comprises of two parts: an online event (in late-June); and, an in-person conference on the campus of CUHK (held in early-July 2024).
The IPHS’ online event is scheduled for Friday, June 28 2024.
The in-person conference will take place from July 2 to July 5 2024.
Delegates can register for either for the online event, or for both the online and in-person conference. Persons attending the conference in Hong Kong will automatically be granted access to the online event. However, persons attending only the online event cannot access the IPHS conference in Hong Kong. Registration fees, as noted previously, will be lower for IPHS members.
